Acts 20:7-12
7On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Paul spoke to the people and, because he intended to leave the next day, kept on talking until midnight. 8There were many lamps in the upstairs room where we were meeting. 9Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead. 10Paul went down, threw himself on the young man and put his arms around him. "Don't be alarmed," he said. "He's alive!" 11Then he went upstairs again and broke bread and ate. After talking until daylight, he left. 12The people took the young man home alive and were greatly comforted.
I love this story of the early church so keen on hearing what God had to say through Paul that they didn’t want to end their time together. Paul talks on and on and a young man falls asleep with catastrophic results.
The wonderful punch line is found in 20:10 … (Okay - I just had to get 20:10 into the current themes)
Paul went down, threw himself on the young man and put his arms around him. "Don't be alarmed," he said. "He's alive!"
God raised this man from the dead and then we read that they just carried on quite normally. After this miracle they broke bread and Paul carried on preaching until daylight and then everyone went on their way.
Oh I do pray that we have meetings like this! (I am not wishing any one of us to get injured as we doze off!) BUT I do pray and trust that we will live lives where the miraculous is such a normal part of our lives. May 2010 be a wonderful year for you … full of loving God, loving people and loving life.
Blessings
Stuart
